Stop Being A Person

Stop Being A Person

Even after the clear recognition that you are pure awareness there can remain a residual belief in a separate self. The following video is an invitation to ‘stop being a person’ right now. It’s based on my own direct inquiry.

Enjoy,
Merle

Stop Being a Person

Stop being a person
Just for now
Shed all identities
Name and pride
And ask yourself
“who am I?”
“what am I?”
“where am I?”

Whatever arises
A thought
A feeling
An emotion
Let it be
Stop being a person
For the present moment

Whatever you think that means
Let it go
Whatever comes to mind
Let it go

And ask yourself
“who am I?”
“what am I?”
“where am I?”

The answer may come back
Silently and without words

Just stop being a person
Just for now

All problems are caused by thinking that you are a person. A separate entity. A bundle of memories.

Even after the clear recognition that you are pure awareness there can remain a residual belief in a separate self.

As long as you continue to believe your self-referential thoughts there will be suffering. To end suffering you need to stop being a person.

Even now as I ask you to stop being a person for the present moment you can easily recognize that you are not a limited or separate entity.

Now when I say easily, I mean easy beyond the concept of ease.

This is not a mental exercise. This is not something you do.

It takes some subtle effort to be a person, to maintain the belief that you are this bundle of body, mind, and thoughts. It takes no effort to recognize your true essence as pure non-conceptual awareness. That is why this is so easy as to be easier than the concept of easiness.

The mind doesn’t know how to stop being a person. But, you do. When I say “stop being a person” you needn’t do anything because the real you is not a person.

Any thought, feeling, or emotion that even hints at the idea that you are in any way limited and separated from universal unbounded presence awareness can be neutralized when you stop being a person right now.

There’s no need to be rigid about this. For example, I can stop identifying myself as a separate limited identity and still say, “I need a haircut.” There’s no benefit to saying, “This body/mind known as Merle needs a haircut.”

Any time you notice self-referential thoughts coming up, either during direct inquiry or anytime during the day, just stop being a person. Just stop being a person right now.

The mind doesn’t know what it means to ‘stop being a person.’ But, the real you knows, because you aren’t a person.

During direct inquiry you may have wonderful blissful experiences. No mater how powerful the experience, it is just an experience. Rather than holding onto the experience and breathing out a long “ahhh” as though you’ve found the secret to life just stop being a person and recognize that you are beyond all experiences. As you look beyond these enjoyable experiences you’ll find that they come more often. Or not. It doesn’t matter.

Remember…

Whatever appears in the mind
You are not
A limited separate person
Just stop being a person
And ask yourself
“who am I?”
“what am I?”
“where am I?”
And let go
Whatever appears in the mind
You are not
An appearance
In the mind
You are before the mind
Let go the mind
Let go the seeking
Be easy beyond
The concept of easiness
Effortless beyond
The concept of effort
Just for now
Beyond all concepts
Beyond all directions
Of up or down
In or out
Forward or behind
Stop being a person
Just for now
Shed all identities
Name and pride
And ask yourself
“who am I?”
“what am I?”
“where am I?”
Look beyond
Appearances of “I”
Appearances of “me”
Just be
And the answer may come back
Silently and without words
Stop being a person
Just for now
Beyond the concept
Of separation
Look beyond
Preferences
Likes and dislikes
You and me
